Hair Fall: What and Why

No one is pleased to see the receding hairline on the head when looking in the mirror. It is a sign after all that you too have become one of the many victims of hair fall. Hair fall is one of the most disturbing disorders of the body that has a distressing effect on many people suffering from it. What makes things worse that hair fall has become a very common phenomenon today.

According to experts, the total life cycle of hair is around 2 to 3 years and during this phase, it grows one centimetre each month. While most of the hair is in growth cycle, there is also some portion of hair that is in resting phase. This portion of hair keeps falling out as a part of a cycle paving way for new hair to grow. Losing around 40-60 hair strands in a day is typically normal but if one is losing an excessively larger number of hair strands than that, it is an indication of a bigger problem at hand.

So what really causes this hair loss? Well, it is not logical to pinpoint one reason behind the hair fall, as there are various factors that contribute towards it. Scalp infections one of the most commonly found reason for hair fall. Such kind of infection is predominantly found among the teens. Fungi infection on scalp causes dandruff. This dandruff weakens hair from its roots that triggers hair fall.

Other huge and more worrisome factor that results in hair fall is hormonal imbalance. The hormone, Dihydrotestosterone is formed by the conversion of testosterones and it triggers hair fall. There are drugs in the market that block the action of this hormone.

Putting it in a mathematical way, stress and health problems are directly proportional to each other. People who are under a lot of stress end up affecting their physical and mental health that translates into hair fall. Some medicines consumed to normalize blood pressure and treat heart problems also have a negative impact on the health of hair.

Experimenting with hair, colouring them, rebonding of hair and making tight pigtails or ponytails causes a lot of harm to them. All the cosmetics available in the market do have a beautifying effect on hair from outside, but few people realize how deleterious these cosmetics are for the health of our hair.

To some extent, it is up to us to make sure that we take enough precautions and avoid experimenting with our hair. As for the genetic disorders, a consultation with the doctor can show the way.
